Rather than mixing and matching armor pieces at whim, it is a good idea to equip yourself with a complete set of armor according to the set bonus that most benefits you. Set bonuses take effect when all unsealed pieces of armor listed in the column 'Items' are equipped for that particular set.
Choosing your Armor Set
Armor sets are meant to add variety to your armor selection, so that your choice relies more than simply on PDef. Although some sets are more popular than others for specific classes, often there is some room for experimentation, especially when used in combination with tattoos.
You should consider the following when choosing your armor set:
- The set's effect on your Base Stats:
These apply to your stats directly by adding or subtracting from one of INT, WIT, STR, CON, MEN, DEX
- The set's effect on other stats:
These apply to stats that work off your Base Stats: PDef, MDef, PAttack, MAttack, HP, MP, Casting Speed, HP Regen, MP Regen, Evasion, Run Speed, Casting Speed, Weight Limit.
- Other Bonuses:
These usually take the form of protection against certain skills or spells.
Dagger Defense, Resistance against Poison, Bleed, Sleep, Root, Stun, Paralysis or Casting Interruption.
Consider the cumulative effect of all those bonuses as well as their differences in PDef and MP when choosing your set.
Unsealing your Armor Set
For No Grade, D Grade and C Grade armor:
There is no need to worry about unsealing.
All items are ready to be used with full set benefits.
For B Grade armor:
The boots, helm and gloves need to be unsealed at the Blacksmith in town for a fee in adena.
The blacksmith will ask you to choose the type of armor you want: Heavy, Light or Robe.
Unsealing these items will not only unlock set bonuses, but also give you a graphics texture that fits with your body armor.
For A Grade armor:
All pieces of armor need to be unsealed at the Blacksmith of Mammon found travelling between the Catacombs. You will need to pay the Blacksmith in Ancient Adena.
Similarly to B Grade, boots, helm and gloves need to be indicated as to whether you want Heavy, Light or Robe.
Note that if you make a mistake in choosing your armor type when unsealing, or simply want to change it, you can always go back to the Blacksmith to reseal your armor piece for a fee, EXCEPT for A-grade armor, which you cannot reseal. So make sure you unseal your A-grade armor properly the first time.
For S Grade armor:
